RAMSEY B v Southern Nomads

Match Report

Southern Nomads took top spot in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield with a fairly comprehensive 32-5 win away at Ramsey B.

Nomads went ahead after quarter of an hour. Ramsey conceded a series of penalties which allowed Nomads to move upfield. From the resulting scrummage, Al Corrin found Martin Jones with a floated pass and he picked a great line through the Ramsey midfield to score under the posts. Matt Wilshaw converted the try for a 7-0 lead. Ramsey hit back from the restart. Nomads turned over ruck ball and Chris Penketh darted down the blind side and fired a speculative grubber into the Nomads twenty two. They struggled to clear and Ramsey flanker Chris King intercepted a very loose pass to pull the lead back to 7-5. Nomads try machine James Hammal struck for the southerners just before half time though to push the lead back out to seven points. He punched over the Ramey line from close range for the try which came after some impressive ball carrying from Nomads’ giant prop Steve McHugh.

In the second half, Nomads cut loose with a scintillating score from skipper Andy Lean. He weaved his way through some indifferent tackling to make it 17-5. Hammal scorched his way 60 metres down the touchline for his second of the day to make it 22-5 and late scores from Matt Bovington-Down and Dave Parks rounded the game off in style as Ramsey faded away.
