Ramsey Secure the Double at Mooragh Park

The inaugural MRFU Challenge Cup also stayed north as Ramsey edged out Vagabonds B 8-7 in a largely uninteresting game. It was 0-0 at half time thanks to some aggressive defending by both sides with the only scoring chances being penalty kicks all of which were missed by Ramsey’s Shaun Wyllie and Vagas’ Danny Williams.

There was a little more life in the second half though and the deadlock was finally broken eight minutes in. With Vagas scrum half Michael Oates temporarily out of action, Tynan Pritchard found a little space in the number one channel. He offloaded to brother Aneurin who in turn found Ramsey full back Danny turner hitting the line at pace and skirting round the Vagas defence for the touchdown and a 5-0 lead.

Vagas missed the opportunity to cut the deficit on twenty two minutes as his penalty kick sailed wide in the breeze. At the other end however Shaun Wyllie made no mistake after Vagas were penalised for handling on the ground in the shadow of the uprights.

With Ramsey leading 8-0, it seemed all over but with just two minutes remaining Vagas started to apply some pressure. Bryn Griffiths set up a drive down the left flank and earned Vagas a penalty. Ramsey hooker Myles Ellis was then sin binned for not rolling away and from the penalty Graham Corran powered home from close range. Danny Williams added the extras to make it 8-7 but unfortunately for Vagas, time ran out before they could strike again.
